William Woolfit weaves together authentic observations and spiritual insight, resulting in captivating lyrical poems.Through his keen sense of awareness, Woolfit’s Beauty Strip looks past the manufactured ‘beauty strips’ of Appalachia to reveal the concealed stories of the landscape.

Specifically, Woolfit explores the relationship between faith and nature, which he links together with a single trope in Beauty Strip: a person’s hands. Hands that have blisters, burns, calluses, and ink stains. Hands that are thin, fear-infused, and called “good.” Hands that clench, point, cup, touch, branch, and hold. The hand is an archetype that can suggest power, influence, or action.

Throughout Woolfit’s work, faith is more than a belief and nature is more than an environment. They both require effort. His poems invite us to observe and engage with our own surroundings so as to experience a connection. Woolfit's words will be imprinted on your mind as he calls each of us to see and to act.

About the Author
I'd like to say I'm a normal every day person, but through my experience of meeting many people over my life, I have decided that no matter how normal someone seems, there will be something either mentally or physically strange about them. When I say that, I don't mean it as a bad thing, sometimes it can be as simple as being able to stick their tongue up their own nose. (Not Me). So basically, no one is normal. Some people are just better at acting it than others. As they say, it's always the quiet ones you want to watch! I don't have any religious beliefs, but do not question others, in fact I admire their ability to have that sort of faith, and am against any sort of racism or bigotry. There are no two people on this planet that are the same so how can we group millions of people by colour or beliefs! I have had a passion for writing my whole life, and have been writing mainly short stories for some time now. I tend to lean towards horror stories as I believe I can be quite creative with horror. The novel Fifteen however is a story that I have wanted to write since I was.....well....Sixteen. The age of Fifteen should really be the best of anyone's life. It is the last year of childhood, and the first year of adulthood. The last year before shit becomes serious. I laughed for most of that year, cried for some of it, and learned some important lessons in life. Writing Fifteen was so much fun I cried a few tears when it was finished. I couldn't believe how attached I had got to these four fictional boys I created. I found myself wanting to know more about them and what they did next. The result was that I started to write Eighteen to see what my mind made them do. I also enjoy writing short stories. Most of these are small ideas I come up with and wonder what I could do with them. You will find these will pop up from time to time and could be about pretty much anything.

Thoughtful poetry

Personal favorites include A Better Life; A Thousand Broken Lives; I Can't Wait to Meet You; and Send Back Some Courage. A nice mixture of happy, thought-provoking and heartfelt. I enjoyed reading the information the author shared at the beginning of the book.

Read using Cloud Reader and was nicely formatted. Minor grammar and spelling issues (prey for pray, missing commas, etc) but didn't interfere with the enjoyment of the poetry. Sensitive Readers: Some profanity but didn't feel gratuitous to me.

Jeniann has always loved poetry and wrote poetry. She has been writing full time for eight years now. Jeniann uses poetry as an escape from daily life and poetry has also healed her troubled past of traumatic events. Jeniann has stared death in the face with the passing of her sisters, mother, daughter, father, grandmother, grandfathers, and several aunts and cousins. Jeniann's poetry reflects deep emotion of pain and anguish she still feels in her heart over the last decade of deaths. Jeniann's poetry, however, also displays a touch of love she is seeking and wants, besides, love and death, Jeniann's poetry also depicts nature in a relationship to God's gifts and the love she has for the outdoors.

A Good Poetry Collection

What I Thought:

I am so pleased I had the opportunity to read this collection of poetry. I think we often forget that poetry is such a brilliant and emotional form of reading. I often write poetry as a way to express my feelings and destress.

I, personally really enjoyed reading this collection. I found it intriguing. Within the selection I had the opportunity to experience love, hate sorrow and joy, as well as the world, through the eyes of the poet.

I read this collection in one go, as I was on a very long bus journey from Northern Scotland down to l
London. I often found myself smiling from the descriptions of the world.

Overall, the collection didn't really have an overall theme, other than life, but each poem itself flowed well and told a good story. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys poetry or who hasn't read poetry before.

I’ve always been someone who loved and admired poetry but was never a huge reader of poetry. Jeniann changed that for me. When I hear she has a new book coming out I get excited and can’t wait to open it up and start reading. Her poetry is heartfelt and filled with naked honesty. Her unique style of writing plays across the tongue and lingers in the soul.

In Poetry Is there is a tone of encouragement and happiness. Each poem is a small journey from darkness to light. There is a sweet simplicity in each poem celebrating the tiniest details most of us take for granted. She celebrates love and life in a way that I rarely see.

A poet who will leaves an impression that won’t soon be forgotten.

nice collection

I felt that I couldn't celebrate National Poetry Month without reading at least one collection of poem so it was very fortuitous that this came in the mail for me to review this month. It was meant to be! Constructed of Magic is a collection of poems that illustrate the immorality and beauty of the human spirit. It's broken into eleven sections: death, grandmothers, spirits, love, children, America, sanctity, angels and monsters, aesthetics, immorality, and hope. Throughout the collection there are also sketches and drawings dispersed (I'm assuming they're done by the author) that help visually impart the message and tone that Louis Alan Swartz is trying to impart. The poems range from light and cheerful, to thoughtful , and remorseful. They follow no particular style or set length, which makes it a quick and meaningful read. Below is a sample from one of the poems that I really enjoyed from the children section, "Pajamas with Feet":

"Unto himself
Harmoniously complete.
Standing on the bed
In his pajamas with feet."

It's a cute poem that sticks with you. I enjoyed this collection, some poems more than others. The only thing I didn't like is that the author (poet) put asterisks by "big" words and defined them at the end of each poem. If this was a poetry collection intended for kids I could understand, but as an adult I could have done without that. Overall, a nice rounded collection.

SPIRITUAL RAP

Poetry should be easy to understand yet a few notches above other genres and with a sprinkle of 'fairy dust'. OK you might want to leave out the 'fairy dust' but certainly you shouldn't struggle to understand. It's basically lyrics without the music. Well this book had me going back to certain poems again and again. It's like talking with the author, only he rhymes. It's like "spiritual rap"! Oh Yeahhhhhh!

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, the title was interesting enough to warrant a look inside. After a few free pages on Amazon it was evident I needed to purchase this unusual work.

I wasn't disappointed. The book is one of a kind - spanning the topics that make us what we are - all nicely wrapped in backward glances punctuated with forward insights. The repetitive use of the spelling of "bee" began to take on a meaning beyond the author's ability to harness and explain it.

All in all, this book will get read and re-read as time goes by.
