Glimpses of a poetic brain criscrossed by verses

What do I say. If you need a pain balm for your strained soul then this is just the kind of short read that you must have. After reading this new blades of green grass will sprout in the barren dessert that was your mind just some moments back. Read it and sleep over it and you would discover yet another hidden meaning for the verses in this book. I loved the poem about the two ends of lifes rainbow.

It is that time again when something catches more than your eye...it catches a beat of your heart and makes a place in some corner of your mind...ofcourse a hard copy is always preferred by me when it comes to poems...but this one definitely stands out in my kindle collection. DO read "shadows of sin"...unforgettable words!!!

About the Author
Feng Zhou is a Chinese Canadian who currently resides in Toronto, Canada. He is the Editor-In-Chief of the publication, Overseas Chinese Poetry Magazine. He started writing poems in 1983, and is the author of three poetry books on Amazon. He refers to himself as an imagist and his poetry is like an infinite sea with high tides that pulls you into its ever-loving embrace and holds you spellbound while you experience passion and elegance at its finest. Zhou's view on poetry is, "to create the largest and the most beautiful space possible in the least amount of words." When Feng has some free-time, he loves to watch reality TV shows such as The Bachelor and The Celebrity Apprentice.

Every day is Valentine's

I bought this because I truly loved author Feng Zhou's other two collections, and while it is undoubtedly written in the same voice, there is a subtle difference in this particular book. It contains a more vivid, if you will, sensuality which is beautifully depicted and puts you in a state of mind you don't wish to quickly leave.

Like most volumes of work, some of these will most likely speak to your heart more loudly than others. I suppose it depends on where you are in life and, right now for me, there were a few poems I absolutely connected with. Briefly, "Variability and Elopement" is about expecting one thing and then serendipity stepping in and surprising you with something so utterly unexpected, but equally as wonderful.
The poem, "Empty House", is haunting. Each morning is a fresh start and you eagerly prepare for it, but by the time you get back home at the end of the day, you find the world has soiled you and the one thing you need isn't there. It's as if every day you wake up hopeful, and yet are left wanting every night. Another, "Golden Autumn", is about meeting your true love later in life. Just like a fine vintage becomes more valuable and exquisite with age, so does love.

Five stars and definitely recommended for anyone who is looking for erotic poetry set in the modern world, yet is timeless in its message.

A Beautiful Collection of Love Poems

Feng Zhou has a beautiful connection with nature, and water most specifically. That might just be the connection I take from his work. The words, the rhythm, even many times his themes of each poem, and the stories they tell, leaves you feeling the cadence of the tides or the current of a river. With this wonderful collection, he takes us along a beautiful path of love. I don’t think I can pick a favorite yet. Spring Love and A Time Of Longing really cover the timing of love. I also like, Wind. Its timing came from the seasons and the years that are a part of the story, you feel the history. And of course, I was back at my happy place the beach, with his wonderful, Prismatic Shells and the touching, Warm Currents Flying To The Other Shore, both resonate with an earthy quality and gentle love.
Poetry can be a matter of taste, there are many styles, etc., but there’s also some structure and form to it, I think learning that can help elevate the experience of poetry. Feng Zhou has included a look at poetry and form. I don’t think of myself as a novice regarding poetry, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I learned from this and I’m grateful he’s shared.

A great collection of love poems

I picked up this collection of poems because I enjoy the work of Feng Zhou very much. All the poems in this collection are deeply emotional, and the language in which they are written is such that the words practically disappear leaving only the images and the feelings they convey. The ability to write in this way is what sets Zhou apart from other poets in my mind, and I will certainly be picking up all future books written by him.

My two absolute favorite poems in this book are LIGHT OF THE NEW MOON and FIRES OF LOVE UPON THE BEACH, which both use gorgeous and simple natural phenomena to paint a picture of eternal love, passion and devotion. Another great poem is EMPTY HEART, which speaks of loneliness and regret so poignantly that I had tears in my eyes once I finished reading it.

Recommended for all lovers of poetry!

About the Author

As a reader and writer, I believe that Vijay Seshadri's newest collection of poems, 3 Sections (don't be surprised if there's prose as well), is his best so far. This is compassion, art, and math combined--Seshadri's best so far, though I read and reread his previous, The Long Meadow. I recommend this book, this poet to you highly!

I loved this collection. The speaker travels a social and metaphysical cacophony with a fight-or-flight--then tender--irony. Here, the self seamlessly shrinks, expands, blends, individuates, resumes. Seshadri writes mesmerizing, purposeful poetry and prose.

Intriguing Modern Poetry

As someone who dabbles in poetry, I had to read the Pulitzer Prize winning collection by Vijay Seshadri. Also, as someone who shares his background of having been born in India, the desire was unstoppable. I was not disappointed. Although I didn’t quite understand all the poems, the ones I did were simply so fascinating that I blame myself for not being able to appreciate the inscrutable ones. Modern poetry in my opinion is often quite dense and leaves the ordinary reader gasping for explanation. My favorites were: Thought Problem, Urdu Poems, Elegy, Family Happiness and Yet another Standard.
I would have appreciated a preface that sheds light on the captivating three Urdu poems included in this collection. Are these translations? My meager knowledge of Urdu poetry tells me that they are, but I am not sure. I also did not care too much about the prose section or the longish personal essay.
Overall, it is a delightful, thought provoking read and there can be no doubt that the poet is highly intelligent and gifted.

Fox Beyer has been a teacher at Whippany Park High School (NJ, USA) for the past ten years. He is also currently a coach for the Somerset Patriots, an independent professional baseball team of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB). They are based in Bridgewater, New Jersey. An alum of Chatham High School (NJ) and the University of South Carolina, Fox spent five years as part of the USC baseball team, earning a degree in 2001. He also completed a master's from Caldwell College in 2008. Fox currently resides in Chatham, New Jersey.

Fox Beyer truly accomplished what he set out to do; the poems ignite, inspire, and evoke the fire within his readers. Fox is genuine and honest in what he writes; he even brings you to tears. Through reading his poems we learn that we are not alone in our feelings and experiences. He give you strength and hope. A must read!

I was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Il. I was married to "My Marine" a month after he had completed his 4 years with the Corp. in January of 1974 and the two of us were blessed with the birth of our Son in the Fall of of the following year! By the time I was 23 I was a single parent and, with open arms my charming little toddle and I moved in back home to live with my Parents. Shortly thereafter, slowly but surly we all moved to Arizona due to my Father's failing health as a result of totally unexpected Cancer! I am currently living in Texas, thoroughly enjoying my 4 Grandchildren blossom into awesome, unique individuals all of their own. Kicking back with a smile on my face I now get to watch my Son and Daughter-in-Law be the "meanies" while I, on the other hand, get the pleasure of doing the "spoiling" Come on now, All Grandparents alike have earned that Right. And now here I sit with my laptop finishing the last few pieces of of my book after 43 years of writing, fine tuning and struggling from deep within my own self that one day I would share with, if only one other person, a book of my creative expression in print!

With melancholy verve she envisions sensuous details everywhere, at once “sated and wild with thirst.” A beach vacation in Spain recalls “a Romanian town wretchedly/ beautiful, bears nosing lamppost and ancient couples/ playing chess on benches painted in national colors.” Confused in Queens, N.Y., the poet’s mother sleeps “in a toddler cot,/ apron pockets lined with shriveled fruit words, jars of preserve/ ticking under the mattress like hand grenades.” Insistently international, Moscaliuc also touches on disputed works of Italian Renaissance art; the burial rituals of Madagascar; and the career of Han van Meegeren, who forged Vermeers. She has a way with the visible world—one poem remembers her own work as an artist’s model—and renders smell, taste, and other sensory details remarkably well. Her often lengthy free verse lines keep coming back to her first homeland: its bloody, convulsive history; its Gypsy (Roma) minority; its fruits and vegetables. Moscaliuc uses the five senses as if she owned them, even when retelling horrors, as in the uneven Chernobyl poems: “When I burned your clothes,/ petals of skin escaped into the gooseberry bush.”

About the Author
Mihaela Moscaliuc is the author of the poetry collection Father Dirt and translator of Carmelia Leonte’s The Hiss of the Viper. Her poems, reviews, and translations of Romanian poetry have appeared in American Poetry Review, the Georgia Review, New Letters, Prairie Schooner, TriQuarterly, and Mississippi Review, among others. Moscaliuc is the recipient of two Glenna Luschei Prairie Schooner Awards and a fellowship from the New Jersey Arts Council. She is an assistant professor of English at Monmouth University and teaches in the low-residency MFA program in poetry and poetry in translation at Drew University.

Inspiration and Courage

Mihaela Moscaliuc manages to compress years of history in poems both lyrical and narrative, heart-wrenching and inspiring. She excels at creating a sense of voice, unabashed, powerful, and inquisitive. In “Radioactive Wolves: A Retelling,” Moscaliuc recreates the nightmares of Chernobyl, using the magic of poetry to remind us of tragedies that often went unrecorded. Based on research and case studies, her poems become testimonials for the pain and the suffering during the Ceauşescu regime. Despite the often gruesome reality they describe, Moscaliuc’s poems are humorous and tender, sensuous and full of surprises. After the high expectations she has set in "Father Dirt," her second book of poetry, "Immigrant Model," is a pure delight.

Beautiful collection of poetry. I lived on the eastern shore of Maryland for four years and reading this collection was a vivid reminder of my time there. The writing is gorgeous and evocative and moves seamlessly from natural/pastoral descriptions to personal storytelling.
