Born in Turnu Magurele, Romania, Elena Liliana Popescu has a PhD in Mathematics and works as Professor at the University of Bucharest, Romania. As a poet, translator and editor, she has authored more than thirty books of poetry and poetry translations from English, French and Spanish, published both in Romania and abroad. Several anthologies of her poems have been published in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Croatia, Cuba, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Mexico, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Salvador, Serbia, Spain, Taiwan, Uruguay, and USA. She is a member of the Romanian Writers' Union, and lives in Bucharest, Romania.

Daugherty, father of Denae Daugherty, Rhonda Willis (Fred) and Brandi Ashley (Brian) and grandfather of Joshua Willis, Joi Willis, Brian Ashley and Jailen Willis. He recently retired from AT&T where he worked for over 36 years. Of all that he's done, the things he enjoys most is being a servant.

Visiting a flower garden in a magic ancient kingdom

"Please, make me the gardener of your flower garden", a lover asks his beloved. He calls himself a servant and his beloved the queen. He dreams to serve her idle days. He wants to keep fresh the grassy path where she walks in the morning; he wants her feet to be greeted with praise at every step by the flowers.
And what he wants for his reward? He asks to be allowed to hold her little fists like tender lotus-buds and slip flower chains over her wrists; to tinge the soles of her feet with the red juice of flower petals and kiss away the speck of dust that may chance to linger there.
This is the way Rabindranath Tagore, the greatest Indian poet of all times, introduce us to this enchanted collection of poems, poems that touch the most profound strings of our hearts. His poems tell us about love and life - and they are rich with the description of nature and beauty. Anybody that loves or has loved cannot remain indifferent to his poems. Some readers "have smiles, sweet and simple, and some a sly twinkle in their eyes. Some have tears that well up in the daylight, and others tears that are hidden in the gloom." But we all have need for him, the poet, who is "ever as young or as old as the youngest and the oldest of the village".
His poems tell us of impossible love - like the love of the free bird and the cage bird: "Their love is intense with longing, but they never can fly wing to wing. Through the bars of the cage they look, and vain is their wish to know each other. They flutter their wings in yearning, and sing, 'Come closer, my love!' The free bird cries, 'It cannot be, I fear the closed doors of the cage.' The cage bird whispers, 'Alas, my wings are powerless and dead.' "
His poems tell us of secret love: "The young traveler came along the road in the rosy mist of the morning. He stopped before my door and asked me with an eager cry, 'Where is she?' For very shame I could not say, 'She is I, young traveler, she is I.' "
His poems tell us of lovers' emotion: "When my love comes and sits by my side, when my body trembles and my eyelids droop, the night darkens, the wind blows out the lamp, and the clouds draw veils over the stars. It is the jewel at my own breast that shines and gives light. I do not know how to hide it."
His poems tell us of the need for love confidence: "Do not keep to yourself the secret of your heart, my friend! Say it to me, only to me, in secret. You who smile so gently, softly whisper, my heart will hear it, not my ears."
His poems tell us of a love story: "Hands cling to hands and eyes linger on eyes: thus begins the record of our hearts. It is the moonlit night of March; the sweet smell of henna is in the air; my flute lies on the earth neglected and your garland of flowers is unfinished. This love between you and me is simple as a song."
His poems tell us of lovers departing: "An unbelieving smile flits on your eyes when I come to you to take my leave. I have done it so often that you think I will soon return. To tell you the truth I have the same doubt in my mind. For the spring days come again time after time; the full moon takes leave and comes on another visit, the flowers come again and blush upon their branches year after year, and it is likely that I take my leave only to come to you again. But keep the illusion awhile; do not send it away with ungentle haste. When I say I leave you for all time, accept it as true, and let a mist of tears for one moment deepen the dark rim of your eyes. Then smile as archly as you like when I come again."

Oh, how I love this book. I stumbled upon a first edition in my university's library, dusty from years of sitting unread (so sad). I read the first several pages, began to swoon, and had to sit down right there to read more. This is a book to read to your lover before making love. A book to woo her heart with!!! Highly recommended for the romantically hearted.

I liked to the book but can not read it for passing the free time. Each of the poem needs attention. It is worth reading in early morning when one is alone without a disturbance by anybody. Hilarious, Heartbreaking, Haunted: Robert Levy's Compelling Ghosts

Robert Levy’s poems are unsparing elegies for the past and sharp appraisals of the imperfect present: poignantly encountering a former spouse decades after divorce (“A Capella”), facing the disappointment of a partner with black humor (“Debt”), reflecting on the struggle and cost of separating from one’s childhood world (“Sunday School”). While the harsh losses of aging are tabulated with grief and honor (“Shrapnel”), Levy’s poems offer up hilarious, laugh-out-loud moments (“The Weather Pig”). The poems display a keen intelligence, filled with insights and perceptions that delight and inspire thinking about one’s own life. Among Levy’s many feats in this book is Levy’s style – accessible, yet multilayered, with multiple meanings and ideas contained within tight, deceptively clear lines. Reading these poems, you hear their music, and re-reading delivers the additional pleasure of seeing how Levy’s conversational tone almost – almost – conceals the rigorous discipline of his poetry, frequently employing both true and slant rhymes to magical effect. A personal, penetrating and compelling book that mines the steep climb of later life, All These Restless Ghosts marks a significant achievement by a terrific writer.

A lovely and evocative read

This lovely book offers a wonderful assortment of poetry that is by turns moving, funny, unsettling and evocative--but always accessible. From poems about the Korean war to memories of teenage theft; from a plethora of deer to a child's a capella concert, this wide-ranging collection offers a distinctly memorable series of finely honed glimpses into the world around us.

I really liked this book because it defies this trade-off

I am a casual reader of poetry, and from my experience, poetry tends to either be avant-garde and obscure, or simple (in both theme and medium) and plain. I really liked this book because it defies this trade-off, as it has a sophisticated lucidity.

He reads to me like a psychological forensic scientist, scrutinizing the daily doings and quirks under his microscope in order to unearth a larger insight about who we are, in a way that reminds me of Virginia Woolf (e.g. he compares the frustration of having to clean daily in order to "stave off again the creeping anarchy / of dirt" to our overall "rueful attempt[s] to make [the world] new / or whole or virginal once more"). But his imagination is unafraid of moving towards philosophical and abstract territory, as he frequently uses extended metaphors to trace an abstract connection between two disparate things, evocative of John Donne (e.g. "Debt is now my wife's true spouse, a husband to her steadfast gloom" or comparing how the enfolding of wrong notes into the music by jazz musicians is akin how "so much of life... is like an accident made music / sort of sonic penicillin") ). What I like about this book most is that it is unafraid in its bold exploration of humanity. It doesn't try to self-doubtingly limit its claims. It provokes. It stirs. Etc.

Our grandson was diagnosed with the rare TSC (Tuberous Sclerosis Complex) in July 2013. We joined TS Alliance on Facebook.
There we discovered a Mom's Heart of Gold in Lisa Cummings. A mother of TSC child. Her POETRY magically describes the beautiful, unconditional LOVE for her precious daughter and their WILD range of experience...which, in turn gives comforting reassurance that families are not alone in their struggles. On 28 July 1960, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced a new manned spaceflight program. Called Apollo, its aim was to put three astronauts into sustained earth orbit, or into a flight around the moon. The grandeur of the achievement of landing men on the moon and returning them to earth came within a decade. The most imposing artifact of that singular achievement is the Apollo launch facilities at Kennedy Space Center.
When the national objective of landing men on the moon was dramatically announced in May 1961, it quickly became apparent within NASA that the remainder of the decade was little enough time to design, build, and equip the extensive and unprecedented facilities required to launch such missions. Indeed, time was so pressing that for many months the planning, designing, even initial construction of launch facilities had to go forward without answers to some essential questions, such as: How big would the launch vehicle(s) be? How many launches would there be, and how often?
Intense effort by a rapidly growing team of people in government, industry, and the universities gradually filled in the grand design and answered those questions. Land was acquired, ground was broken, pipe was laid, concrete was poured, buildings rose. When the launch vehicles and spacecraft arrived, the facilities were ready and operations could begin. Seldom was the pressure off or the path smooth, but the end of the decade saw the deadline met, the task accomplished.
The central feature of this book is launch complex 39 (LC-39), where American astronauts were launched toward the moon. Its story begins in early 1961 with the earliest plans for a mobile launch complex and proceeds through design and construction to the launching of Apollo 11 and subsequent lunar missions. The construction story is a big one - the building of the Apollo Launch facilities was the largest project of its time. In many ways, however, the operations at LC-39 were an even greater challenge. As an Apollo program manager has noted, the Kennedy Space Center was at the "tail end of the whip." There all the parts of the Apollo program came together for the first time. The launch team ensured that the space vehicle would work.

Good book for those that want the "nuts and bolts" of Apollo

Overall, I really liked reading this book. It is fairly technical and dry, but that is what I expected.
I grew up during the period detailed in this book. I was entralled by everything "space race" related during that time.
I was 16 years old when we landed on the moon, and it remains one of the highlight periods of my life to this day.
This book filled in a lot of the gaps that I didn't know about the process of building the JFK space port and the vehicles that departed from it.
For anyone genuinely interested in what it took to get to the moon, (and we really did do it!) this is a book that should be on your "to read" list.

I have based these poems on truths, or to put it another way, what the media report so if they are lies, I can blame them. As most of my friends know, I had no vote in the referendum as I live in London, having moved from Glasgow in 1980. Scotland and its people deserve to be free as do the rest of the UK from Westminster’s greed.
These poems were written for the referendum and though that has come and gone, they are still very relevant today.

The vote was NO but as I write, Labour, for all their lies, has almost diminished in Scotland whilst the SNP has grown at an alarming rate, almost 93,000 Members, a new FM in Nicola Sturgeon after Alex Salmond stepped down plus the SSP and the Green Party have seen massive increases in their Memberships.

Paul does a brilliant job of expressing a candid view for Independence

. Paul does a brilliant job of expressing a candid view for Independence. His sharp wit and ability to say what so many others are thinking makes this book a must have for anyone interested in having a piece of Scotland's history.This modern day Burns says it as it is in an easy to read format. I am so looking forward to reading more books from this author.

Political Poetry At Its Best

Fantastic book with poems I'd read in the run-up to the Scottish independence referendum, and some I'd missed. Paul Colvin is an excellent poet who writes for the everyday working man. If you're a Scottish nationalist or even if you're just someone who's tired of Westminster's broken system, you'll enjoy this book.
