About the Author
David Krieger is a peace leader and poet. He is a founder of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, and has served as President of the Foundation since 1982. He has lectured throughout the United States, Europe and Asia on issues of peace, security, international law, and the abolition of nuclear weapons. He serves as an advisor to many peace organizations around the world and has received many awards for his work for a more peaceful and nuclear weapons-free world. Dr. Krieger is the author or editor of numerous studies of peace in the Nuclear Age. Among his books are several poetry volumes, including: Summer Grasses: An Anthology of War Poetry (editor); Never Enough Flowers: The Poetry of Peace II (editor); God’s Tears: Reflections on the Atomic Bombs Dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki; The Doves Flew High; Today Is Not a Good Day for War; and The Poetry of Peace (editor). He is a graduate of Occidental College, and holds MA and Ph.D. degrees in political science from the University of Hawaii as well as a J.D. from the Santa Barbara College of Law.

David Krieger's latest is a haunting Wake Up! call

As the co-founder and long-time president of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, David Krieger has been preaching peace to deafened warmongers for so long one would think he’d have grown faint with exhaustion by now. What is astonishing to me in WAKE UP!, his most recent book of poetry, is how deeply Krieger remains alive to the beauty and promise of our precious world—despite the brutal banality of those who continuously incite us to war. This is a beautiful book with thought-provoking poems, working, like water softening rock, to wake us up to the futility of trying to create peace through warfare.

A compelling balance of yin and yang

If the world of poetry could be simplistically divided between the “lyric” and the “dramatic,” the way we categorize sopranos, then the poems of David Krieger would fit better under the latter heading. But I have discovered in WAKE UP! ample lyricism midst the hard-hitting words: turns of phrase that are simply lovely, like “Conscious of our bright light within the fog / and the brevity of being, we breathed deep our bounty / and the ocean air, each taking our full share.” (p. 101) Counterbalancing the blunt outrage (the yin) of many of his verses, like “Among the ashes / of Hiroshima / were crisply charred bodies,” Krieger’s lyrical moments provide welcome balance (yang). They make this latest anthology of poems quite a wonderful addition to a well-balanced poetry collection.

About the Author
THE OPEN MOUTH OF THE VASE is Amy Ash's first full- length collection, which debuted in January, 2015. Amy Ash is a Doctoral student at the University of Kansas. She has an MFA in creative writing/poetry and a BA in English and Spanish with a creative writing minor, both from New Mexico State University. Her work has been published in various journals, including Cimarron Review, Lake Effect, Inkwell, Red Clay Review, Rio Grande Review, Harpur Palate, and Mid-American Review.

There Is Only One!

I am not going to try to compare the spiritual value of this publication to translations of other Sufi and related mystical poetry.
What initially interested me was reading about the new project launched by Murty Classical Library of India, associated with
Harvard University Press, which plans to be the largest compendium of various religious works from Asia ever translated
into English. Naturally it will not be 100% inclusive as few individuals would be able to afford or to store, or to translate
such a huge volume of work, but it will cover a variety of religious traditions, all in hardbacks of uniform appearance. The
paper is acid-free. The cloth binding is bright crimson, and the dust jackets are a very slightly more muted crimson, with
a dusky gold design (mostly around the spine both front and back jacket) and front jacket titling in white and gold English
text. They all have a logo near the bottom center which is a stylized elephant with curled trunk.

The translator is Christopher Shackle from the University of London.

I saw a couple different listings of this book which listed both different price and a different number of pages, which I found
confusing. I seem to have sorted it out. Although you may see this listed as containing 496 pages, what it contains is 443
regular numbered pages, 36 pages of introduction with roman numerals (and as the initial pages are blank, the numbered
introductory pages start at vii) and a bunch of blank pages at the end. So, whether it says 443 pgs, 496 or some number
in between, so far there is ONLY one edition. Here's a random sample of verse:

Everything else is of no account; there is only God.
Some of the confusion has been created by
religious scholars, some by paper
that has driven people mad.

All verses have their Sanskrit text on the opposite side to the English
(Sanskrit left-side; English right-side).

This is going to be a truly classic series.

Another scintillating Kinderton tale!

Another fabulously scintillating, well written read from the amazing Kinderton! The only things I found dissatisfactory about this one was its ending (unless they are part of a series, I prefer solid finishes with all issues settled) and its short length (for the price), which is why I have given it four stars instead of five. Overall, however, I do not feel it was a waste of my time. Far from it. Once I started reading I could not stop till I was finished.

About the Author
Nick Adams emigrated to Canada from the UK in 1977 to work for the Ontario government as an archaeologist. He soon fell in love with Canada's north and, for the past few years, has been exploring it by canoe and on his beloved 1970's Moto Guzzi motorcycles. From time to time, he returns to the UK to 'get a breath of Britain' by hiking some of its many long-distance footpaths and riding around visiting friends and relatives on Royal Enfields. Writing about his trips and sharing them with others doubles the pleasure. He is a regular contributor to 'RealClassic' magazine and frequently posts to on-line motorcycle forums.

The romance of the open road

British-born Nick followed his heart to the New World several decades ago, established a career in archaeology, and then did the whole family thing. He never lost a love of motorcycling on rattling old clunks through windswept, wide open terrain which he developed back in his youth in Blighty. In later life, he made time and devoted resources to rediscover the exquisite loneliness of the long-distance rider.

These compiled episodes tell some of the stories of his travels. Nick’s a natural storyteller. He has a real gift for transporting you to the icy wilds of northern Canada, where immense lakes look more like inland oceans and the horizon hides behind ancient forests. Nick takes an old bike, one which doesn’t have a particularly brilliant reputation for reliability, and proves that you can motor many thousands of miles on a 1972 Guzzi Eldorado, without back-up, breakdown cover or even a mobile phone signal. Sometimes his routes are paved or tarmac surfaced. Often they’re not.
The story starts with a bit of history, about Nick’s early motorcycling years which will feel familiar to many men of a certain age. It’s not just background; these formative years have a direct relevance to recent events. Nick’s teenage experience with a the Red Panther which expired in the rain comes back to haunt him when his Guzzi likewise loses its sparks in heavy traffic – and in both occasions a brush with the law is the result…
Nick has a gift for dragging you into the ride. This is less like a travelogue and more like sharing the ride. You could, if you were truly keen, recreate his routes by following the short road notations or detailed maps, but I preferred to instead let the rhythm of his writing recreate the rumble of the road.
Each ride is presented in a self-contained chapter, so this is an easy book to read in half-hour sessions. There is a bit of repetition (especially when it comes to Nick’s firm grip on the French language), but every journey has a distinct character – becoming more adventurous as Nick’s confidence in the bike and his stamina grows. He describes some situations common to many motorcycle travellers: pressing on past what looked like a busy hotel, only to end up in a dump of a motel a hundred miles later, exhausted. Refusing the stop (for anything!) on the home straight, and finishing a 22 hour trek in a state of wired, hyper-real concentration. Worrying about that rattle. Spending half the time with your head inclined towards the engine…
More precious are the moments I’ve never experienced, beautifully described. Pulling up by the side of the road and hanging a hammock to sleep under the stars. Being woken by the full moon (I truly do relate to that) and rather than restlessly fretting, getting back in the saddle to ride a few hundred miles before breakfast, dimply lit by the glow of 40 year old Italian electrics. And even in the genuine, honest to goodness middle of nowhere, Nick encounters that essential motorcycling truth. He meets strangers and they part as friends.

Criticisms? A good editor would’ve tidied up the few grammatical and punctuation glitches, but they rarely spoil the flow. Bonuses? The photos of the deserted roads, the sparsely-visited rest stops and the sheer scale of the landscape.

Nick Adams obviously has a "thing" about Moto Guzzi motorcycles ...

Nick Adams obviously has a "thing" about Moto Guzzi motorcycles which is instantly recognisable to those of us who share the same "thing". His tales of his rides to the north of Canada on these middle aged bikes paint, in everyday prose, vivid images of roads and scenery, people and places which some of us have never seen and likely, never will. I found myself reading his "get you home" running repairs, using whatever is at hand, and remembering my own similar efforts while riding similar age, and older, motorcycles. Nick made me feel as though I was right there, riding with him.
This is, by no means, a big read at 105 pages but there is enough packed into those pages to ensure that I will be back again and again as, I suspect, will most readers. Well done, Sir. More please!

Old Guy, Old Bike, Bad Roads, Great Stories

I'm loving this.

I've been following Nick's adventures on the Wild Guzzi board for a number of years and this collection of his (mis-)adventures is a great read. Old guy, old bike, back roads miles from anywhere - what could go wrong?

This is not your Charlie and Ewen story, all polished with a full support team following them. No, this is one man and his trips on his beloved Moto Guzzis out and around Canada.

If you've ridden anywhere off the beaten track by yourself, you can relate to Nick's stories. Easy to read, with humor and insight.

Highly recommended.

Creativity explained creatively

This book gives voice to one of the most influential poets of modern day time. Dr. Rachel Falconer has insightfully brought forward a collection of poems and essays that discuss the brilliance of language and the powerful concepts which Kathleen Jamie has used in her poetry. The thought provoking use of poems to reflect the work of Jamie's poetry, balanced with the chapters of literary criticism, teaches us to listen to the truths and beauty of Jamie's work. Dr. Falconer needs to be commended for bringing Jamie's poetry to the attention of the general public in such an imaginative and thoughtful context.

Born on April 6th 1970 in Ft Carson, Colorado and raised in a military Family, I have had numerous experiences that stretch across the globe. I currently live in Augusta GA where my Family settled in after my Fathers retirement from the Army. I too, am a Soldier. I have served 2 combat tours. One during Operation Desert Storm. The other from 2004-2005 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. I currently am serving in the Military with the primary function of training our Soldiers for deployment. Divorced twice, I have 3 wonderful children (Fred Jones IV, Serenity, and Kaitlyn) who are my everything! My children are and ALWAYS will be my priority. Raised in a very close Family and I am so glad. My parents; Lydia J Jones is a Brilliant teacher, and, my Father who is retired Military have made me who I am today.

Poetry that speaks to me....

How on earth do you review poetry? I am of the opinion there is no such thing as a bad poem. There is poetry that speaks to you and poetry that does not speak to you. I chose to read these poems because of my mother. Ever since I can remember, my mom would read poetry to me, my brother, and father. We would all gather in my parents bedroom and curl up in the bed as she would read Edgar Allan Poe. My favorite was Eldorado. Since then, I’ve been a fan of Edgar Allan Poe. His poetry speaks to me. However, I wouldn’t call myself a fan of poetry overall.

With that being said, I am pleased to say that the poetry of Frederick Jones speaks to me. I wouldn’t call the overall themes Gothic; I would call theme raw or real. I can’t say who else his poetry would speak to, except to say fans of Edgar Allan Poe should give him a read. I would also say that as a person, I embrace the dark side of life. I have a dark side that I choose not to ignore. I don’t fight what is…I let it flow. For these reasons…I think the poetry of Black Rose, Wilted was able to touch my heart. While its still difficult for me to recommend poetry to others…I’m going to go out on a limb and say that introverts, artistic types, naturalists, idealists, and people who love with all they’ve got will LOVE this book. Get it!

About the Author
Rosemarie Dombrowski is a performer, an activist, and an educator. Her work has appeared in Salt River Review, Hartskill Review, A Clean, Well-Lighted Place, The Huffington Post, and others. She was the founder of the poetry journal, merge, and now serves as a poetry editor for the Phoenix-based literary magazine, Four Chambers. Additionally, she hosts the Phoenix Poetry Series and is a Lecturer of English at Arizona State University’s Downtown Phoenix campus. She currently lives in Scottsdale with her autistic son, Brendan, and an impressive collection of vintage handbags and train cases.

A colossus of love.

I opened this collection of poems in the middle, 'cause that's my style, then read to the end and backed up to the beginning. Together they are a chronological document of the poet's relationship with her autistic son. My impressions came like this: heartbreaking, beautiful, a colossus of love.
