It is here where he decides to compile a list of poems in his room, portraying the things he sees on Soul Street and experiences encountered throughout his life. Painting a vivid and honest picture entirely from his perspective. His father being imprisoned, relationship with his mother is shaky at best, older brother being killed by police are experiences that have shaped his perspective. With the successes and highs of life in addition with all of its trials and tribulations, Khaliq uses poetry and wordplay to exhibit his gift, embrace life, and to get away from the pain.

A fascinating journey.

A fascinating journey through prose and poetry into the mind of Christopher Starchild. Mr. Starchild's unique combination on genres draws from real life - although it is not completely and truly autobiographical. Khaliq is the culmination of friends, family and acquaintances that the author has seamlessly melded into a beautiful tale of struggle and redemption. As a phoenix rises from the ashes, so does the development of young Khaliq, and we feel his pain, share his joy and rejoice in his growth. A thought-provoking tale which is beautifully and artfully told.

A Journey Through Poetry

The SoulStreet Hotel: Stories From Room 1309 (The Soul Street Series) is both a well thought out journey through the author's mind and a realistic portrayal of life on the fictional SoulStreet. Each poem delves a little further into the author's soul, and has a distinct point of view. The dark, gritty nature of the book, mixed with the passion that the author left on the pages left me continuing to ponder his thoughts well after I had completed the book.

Masterpiece! I enjoyed every bit of this book. From start to finish each poem was very captivating and thought provoking. I finished this book within two days of my purchase! I love it!
