They have blessed me. Sometimes I just "stood on the side" and wrote what God was saying. I wasn't even part of it, but I wrote the words and was amazed. I am still amazed today. And God is getting great glory for Himself.

About the Author
Karen J Chisholm loves the Lord and these poems and writings come from her early morning quiet time with God. Karen's heart is worshipping the Lord in song and she is Director of Music Ministries at Highlands United Methodist Church in the greater Houston area of Texas. A gifted pianist, singer, songwriter, Karen is active in music ministry and is a sought-after speaker for women's groups in Houston and the surrounding area. Having written hundreds of original songs, Karen recorded a CD entitled, "I Delight in You" and has other music projects pending. Most recently, Karen published a book of poetry and messages from God entitled "I AM with You, Poems Inspired by God" available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. This book, "Tough as Nails, Poems Inspired by God" is a continuation of that writing genre, though these poems are much more strongly worded than those of the first book. Karen likes to say, "God is getting serious" Karen's family includes three sons, six grandchildren, and many others who call her "Grandma Karen" Her interests include singing, playing music with others, reading, home cooking, and playing games. After retiring from the U.S. Space Program, Karen has devoted her time to completing these projects and, when asked where she works, often replies, "I work for God"

Hearing The Lord

It is often hard to read a book of someone else's poetry. Poetry often comes from someone’s personal space that makes it too hard for anyone else to really “get”. I was interested in this book since the author states the poems were “inspired by God” as well. This book certainly does give one that feeling. However, in my opinion, that is not necessarily entirely in its favor. Some of these poems could have been lifted directly from scripture. While giving them a timeless nature, I felt at times I really was reading scripture and visiting, once more, messages that were very familiar to me.
Other poems though brought me back to today’s world and using today’s words and vernacular made me think about how the Word is just as applicable to today's situations as it was 2000 years ago. While these “today” poems may not be as timeless (and it could be argued the message was the same) these poems were the ones I really liked and really got me thinking about how God’s word applied to my daily life- like kind of a modern scripture. Okay, that’s probably a bit presumptuous, but still, that’s the feeling I felt when reading some of these poems. Recommended!

Poetry - what a delight!

Loved it! Touching and moving - Searching for different a different way reading about God - Poetry! How wonderful and down to earth. Glad to see we are not all perfect and have challenges in life. Down to earth and straight forward. God is with us always - love the poetry and makes me want to try it myself. Really started the wheels rolling and makes you stop and think. . Thanks Karen for your inspiration.
