About the Author
Miles Dean After a career in business and government, Miles has been writing poetry, and some short prose, for the last 11 years. He has two previously published books of poetry (“Furrows on Parchment”, 2012, and “Musings after Midnight”, 2013). He has received awards for prose and poetry from the West Virginia Writers Inc. in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 He and his wife Rebecca have three sons, two living in WV. Miles and Rebecca have been married over 50 years, and they reside in Fayetteville, WV, in the New River country.

In this latest volume from Miles Dean he takes us deep into West Virginia coal country - a place where great beauty resides along great beauty that has been decimated. He takes on fracking both with deadly serious aim (Explosive Euphemisms) as well as with satire (Seuss in the Coalfields). If you've ever wondered what living with fracking means beyond just a word in the newspaper, he can clarify that for you.
Coexisting with the grim and grime of the coal world there is a another of nature, animals, family, risky adventures and humor - the satisfactions of daily living that he deftly catches in mid air with these poems. He navigates a journey on the New River that encourages the reader to new views and insights.

Miles Dean's New River Reflections captures the sad and depressing reality of strip and mountain top removal coal mining. Powerful images and language make real this tragedy of our time and the shame of the legacy being left for the next generations. Long after the dirty coal is burned children, the ill, and the elderly will still need to breathe and they will not be consoled by the devastated landscape of West Vrginia. Miles also has written touching and personal memories including a tribute to Senator Jay Rockefeller. Well done!

A satisfying read!

A good set of thoughts and reflections on the West Virginia environment and it's people. It was a satisfying read!
