“Scraps from God’s Table” is a collection of poems that has been years in the making. The poems provide glimpses into the life and ideas of an African American man growing up in Detroit. The ideas presented in the collection are heavily influenced from life as a Christian and dealing with the concepts of religion. Many of the works deal with the struggle of trying to do what’s right in spite of influences to do otherwise. There is an honesty lent to the verses that show, beauty, humility, and fragility of humanity. The works deal with the sense of abandonment in “Papa’s Gun” and living in crime ridden environment in “Princess Pixie Dust”. The poems serve not only as stories or ideas but are meant to inspire and serve as fuel for readers to be inspired long after reading.

About the Author
Damien Major is an educator and poet from Detroit, Michigan. He is a father and husband whom uses his observations and education as tools to create poems that speak to multitudes of people. He has spent numerous years working with at risk youth in Detroit's juvenile detention centers and high schools. He is a graduate of Ashford University with a B.A. in social science and an M. A. in education. He has endured many hardships as well as seen many trials which are conveyed through his works. Major is influenced by many poets and cites Nikki Giovanni and Nassir Jones as his two biggest sources of inspiration for writing.
