Leona Sevick’s poems appear in Barrow Street, Tar River Poetry, The Florida Review, and other journals She is the winner of the 2012 Split This Rock Poetry Contest, judged by Naomi Shihab Nye, and has written extensively on the work of the American writer Willa Cather Sevick is associate provost and associate professor of English at Mount St Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland This is her first chapbook.

Damaged Little Creatures in many ways is my first poetry book outside of required poem readings back in high school so many years ago. I’ve always liked poetry, but like song lyrics, sometimes the message needs to be explained to me. However, with Sevick’s poems the messages are straightforward and direct. I can visualize the images the words create. I can feel the emotion, be it sadness, regret, happiness, or contentment. I would highly recommend this chapbook to anyone who enjoys poetry or is discovering poetry for the first time. (Also, I love the cover!)

Leona Sevick's "Damaged Little Creatures" is a must read. Her ability to create transparency around her experiences that have shaped her life is remarkable. Life, experiences and memories may seem linear when in fact they are jagged little pieces that most of us don't take the time to examine. Leona's writing displays an honesty about all of us in that there is sadness and brokenness in us all but it can all be beautiful if we stop to appreciate it all and not just say its "all good". I highly recommend this book
