About the Author
David S Leyman was born in Devon, England, United Kingdom. He joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) when he was sixteen and stayed for twenty seven years. After leaving the RAF, he continues teaching aircraft engineering to students / apprentices / engineers from all over the world. He is now semi-retired and resides in Malaysia so that he is able to pursue his passion: writing. He writes technical and science fiction/fantasy books. He also loves drawing cartoons - as illustrated throughout his technical books and his websites.

A great book

It is indeed refreshing to find a technical book written in a non technical manner. I have to say that this book makes a great introduction to the world of jet engines and a refresher for those already in the field. It makes a great read for those who plan to take their licensing in Aircraft maintenance. It is even perfect for those who are curious to know about how the jet engines work. I love the cartoons in the book as it makes it less tiresome to read and digest. How I wish this book was available when I was doing my aviation training.

This book's really good.

My father and David were in the Royal Air Force together, David really know's his stuff and this book is a really good way to understand how a jet engine works. Something as a frequent flyer I've always wondered and admired.

Fantastic Intro to Jet Engine Operation

This is a great intro book for someone (like me) who does not know squat about how jet engines work and less than that about thermodynamics and fluid mechanics and such. I bought the Bill Gunston book, and while I do like that book and think it is nice, it was over my head. I am engineer by background and not afraid of math, but it was more than I was wanting to tackle. This book on the other hand is like the "For Dummies ..." version and I LOVE IT. Simple and concise is what a great overview should be and this satisfies that for me on both accounts. As an aside,the Gunston book, however, has a great section on history talking about Whittle and the early development and more.
