About the Author
Poet/performance artist Davida Singer is the author of shelter island poems (Canio’s Editions) and Port of Call (Plain View Press, 2012), which was a finalist for the Audre Lorde Poetry Award. She often reads combining spoken word with jazz and klezmer, and her multimedia project khupe was performed with musicians at Manhattan venues, including The Kitchen and Cornelia Street Café. Singer is the recipient of four fellowships from The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, New Mexico, and was featured at the 2011 SOMOS Summer Writers Series. Her poems have appeared in The Comstock Review, Feminist Studies, Response, Sinister Wisdom, and Chokecherries Anthology, among others. She was a theater journalist at The Villager for 13 years, and currently teaches creative writing and literature at Hunter College and School of Visual Arts in New York City.
In 2014 Santa Fe composer/pianist John Rangel created a jazz suite for naked romance and then some to accompany the poetry in performance.

Wonderful Book of Poetry

To say davida singer is a poet at the height of her powers is a severe understatement. Few today can match her gift of language-the lush surprise, the accuracy of her images of place, of weather, of the passion of life--,as in "this space between leaving and gone," or in an elegy to a deceased friend, "how everyone she touched /stayed touched," or the prescient shock of the first lines of "verge"--"there is always something burning/ in gotham or about to..."
"naked romance...and then some" is a rewarding experience for any lover of the art of poetry.

Romance Lives..

As an actor, imagery, through line, and musicality in language is essential for us to perform. Every single word that Singer says in this amazing book has every single one of those traits. She is a master at capitvating you with stories that are policical, provocative, and of course romantic. In a world where it seems that romance is slowly disappearing. It is so refreshing to see that in Singers world it still exists. Which makes me believe that it exists in my world.

These poems are so urgently alive. The New Mexico sky, a bike ride in the rain, the body of a finch on the road--everything in Singer’s gaze shimmers with color and pulses with sound. Passionate and provocative, (and yes, nakedly romantic,) the poems left me stunned and woozy and grateful.
